movcast Locator Quick Start

Prerequisites

To use the movcast Locator system you will need the following items:

A Microsoft Powered Smartphone, PocketPC or HandheldPC
An existing Jabber Instant Messenger account OR the name of a Jabber server you wish to use (visit http://www.movsoftware.com/servers for a listing of Jabber servers.)
A GPS device (optional)

Step 1 - Install imov Messenger Enterprise Edition.

Download and install imov Messenger Enterprise Edition on your Microsoft PocketPC, Smartphone or Handheld PC from http://www.movsoftware.com. When the program runs the first time, the Setup Wizard will appear. If you do not already have a Jabber Instant Messaging account, select “Create New Account” during the setup process. Complete the Setup Wizard and allow the software to connect to the Jabber server you specified.

Step 2 - !supportEmptyParas]> !supportEmptyParas]> Configure your imov Messenger software to publish your location.

If you have a Microsoft Mobile Powered Smartphone follow these steps to setup your Location Based Services (LBS) in imov Messenger:

From the Roster or Login Screen choose “Setup” from the “Menu” (right softkey) and then choose “Advanced” and then “LBS” from the right softkey menu. The Location Based Services dialog box will appear. Check the “Enable LBS” checkbox. If your phone is equipped with location based services technology, your location will automatically be detected and you need to do nothing further.

If your phone is not equipped with this service, you will need to enter your latitude, longitude and altitude in decimal form manually. Latitude values should be a decimal number between 90 and –90 degrees. Longitude values should be a decimal number between 180 and –180 degrees. Altitude should be entered in as a decimal and should be the number of meters above sea level.

Close the dialog boxes until the Login Screen appears. If not already connected, connect to the Jabber server using the “Connect” softkey from the login screen.

If you have a PocketPC, PocketPC Phone Edition or HandheldPC device follow these steps to setup your Location Based Services in imov Messenger:

From the Login Screen click the “Setup” button and click the “Advanced” button and then the “LBS…” button to access the Location Based Services dialog box. Check the “Enable LBS” checkbox to enable Location Based Services in imov Messenger.

If you have a GPS device, connect it to the device and click the “Use GPS” checkbox. Select the port that the GPS is connected to in the “Port” combo box. If you do not know which port the GPS is connected to, select “Auto” and the GPS will automatically be detected. Once this is completed your location will automatically be updated periodically.

If your device is not equipped with a GPS, select "WIRELESS". This will use your wireless signal to find your current location.

Click the OK button the close the dialog boxes until the Login Screen appears. If not already connected, connect to the Jabber server by clicking the “Connect” button.

Step 3 – Sign in to the movcast Locator System

Visit http://locator.movsoftware.com/locator to login to the Locator system and view the current locations of the users of the system. Use the username and password that you chose when signing up for the movcast Locator service in Step 2.

Additional Tips

Once you sign up for the movcast Locator service, you can add a web button to your web site or HTML email that will allow others to see your location graphically. To add the button to your web site or email, simply add the following html:

Just replace the myjid@myjabberserver.com (highlighted in red) with your Jabber ID. The web button should appear as follows:
